Research summary
Public-private Partnership in the Post-Welfare State Era/Comparative Social Study on Rebuilding of Public-private Partnership, Regional Factors and Possibility of Local Governance The study examines aspects of nationalistic and centralized "welfare states" and global and decentralized "welfare society," or "post-welfare states," from ‎the viewpoint of relationships of roles of "public-common-private" or "public-private-cooperation" through reviewing a traditional government-led concept ‎of the "public." Its aim is to envision the approach and the direction of regional governance in comparison to that of the government by specifically focusing ‎on the formation of a readily accessible place, or a "local society," where various players in society, such as private non-profit cooperative entities, voluntary ‎organizations, and community groups, are able to recognize each other's activities while playing their public roles, and cooperate if necessary. The study ‎discusses on governance of such local society theoretically and empirically, based on experiences of the U.K., which is a traditional model of a welfare state ‎and has accumulated pioneering practices of "public-private partnerships" in a post-welfare phase, and in light of the reality of Japan, which has the ‎historical, social, political and cultural context different from the U.K.‎
