Research summary
A research on the physical activity and exercise useful for improving athletic ability in sports as well as health promotion and lifestyle related disease Concerning physical activity, physical exercise and sports, it is known that the quality of life of the elderly generation is improved as a result that citizens enjoy sports as a culture, while it has been formerly said that exercise and training are useful to improve athletic ability and physical strength. On the other hand, scientific evidences have been accumulated recently that the physical activity, physical exercise and sports are effective to prevent lifestyle related diseases such as diabetes mellitus, stroke and cancer. I am engaged in the research from the viewpoints of both physical activity and exercise, and sports based on my previous career. First, I am developing an effective training method to improve the function of both aerobic energy supply mechanism and anoxic energy supply mechanism to resynthesize the ATPs that are the energy consumed by exercise from the viewpoint of the former. 　I am engaged in the research to clarify that the physical activity quantity and exercise quantity necessary to prevent lifestyle related diseases that are indicated in the Exercise Guide 2006 (Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare) by creating a large-scale cohort from the viewpoint of the latter. Furthermore, I am engaged in the basic research on the effect of physical training on sugar metabolic ability and the mechanism to prevent colon cancer using experimental animals. I am also engaged in the research on energy metabolism to establish the dietary intake criteria for Japanese people.
