Research summary
Desertification Asian dust flying to Japan in early spring. I have been engaged in the research on the historical background in which Asian dust came to fly in the Loess Plateau along the middle reaches of the Yellow River of China that is the birthplace of the Asian dust, and the role of the measures against the Asian dust. Although the Loess Plateau had been a land full of greenery, the terraced fields spread out as far as the eye could see at the end of the 19th century and it became a desolate land where the air was full of flying grit as a German geographer Richthofen described. Large-scale afforestation has been advanced to repaint this yellow earth green again since the end of the 20th century. I believe that the success of the greening prevents the Asian dust from flying. I am now researching the ways to successful greening from the viewpoints of economy, society and environment.
