Subject of research
1.	My current SLA motivational research aims to examine the extent to which students in Japan have a sense of a “second language self” and ways in which this self-concept can be encouraged and enhanced.

Research summary
The impact of study abroad programs on international communicative competence Although short-term study abroad has increased in popularity among Japanese students of English, little is known about the benefits and drawbacks of such programs. My current research group aims to investigate the linguistic and psychological impact on Japanese English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students of three kinds of study abroad programs: short-term study abroad in Asian contexts, short-term study abroad in native-speaking contexts, and long-term study abroad native-speaking contexts. This study takes place over four years (2015 to 2019) and includes quantitative measures, qualitative interviews, and classroom observations.
